Bihar Postal Circle Celebrates Postal Day with Grand Cultural Event and Announcements for Enhanced Customer Experience

As part of the ongoing World Postal Week celebrations, Bihar Postal Circle observed Postal Day on October 09, 2024. Following Mail & Parcel Day on October 07 and Philately Day on October 08, the third day of this week-long event was dedicated to recognizing the vital role of the postal network. The day featured a range of activities and was capped off with a cultural evening in collaboration with Ministry of External Affairs under the Horizon series program of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), at Patna GPO campus.

The event commenced with a warm welcome speech by Shri Pawan Kumar, Director of Postal Services (HQ), Bihar Circle, Patna, who extended greetings to all present and set the tone for the day’s celebrations. The welcome speech highlighted the importance of World Postal Week and Bihar Postal Circle’s commitment to serving the community.

On this occasion, Shri Anil Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, Bihar Circle, highlighted the significance of Postal Day, noting that it marks the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) on October 09, 1874. Shri Kumar emphasized that this year, the global postal community is celebrating 150 years of UPU’s dedication to connecting people worldwide.

Reflecting on the past year, Shri Kumar discussed Bihar Postal Circle’s ongoing efforts to enhance customer satisfaction. He announced that 152 post offices in Bihar Circle is undergoing modernization and will be relocated to more accessible premises to provide a better customer experience. He also shared that over 2,000 branch post offices are being relocated to Panchayat Bhawans to improve accessibility in rural areas. In this regard, order has also been issued.

Shri Kumar introduced the “PM Gati Shakti” scheme, under which Bihar Postal Circle is undertaking geo-fencing of post offices. With this technology, postal areas will be mapped according to their pin code zones, making it easier for people to find their local post offices on digital maps and navigate to them without hassle.

Further emphasizing digitalization, Shri Kumar announced the adoption of the e-Office system, which will allow Bihar Postal Circle to operate in a paperless environment, streamlining internal processes and contributing to environmental sustainability.

He also mentioned the recent opening of new post offices at Shaguna More, Parsa Bazar, Shivala More, and Chiraura, which aim to serve the public with greater convenience and accessibility.

Postal Day Cultural Program The evening saw a grand cultural program organized at the Patna GPO Campus to celebrate Postal Day. This event was organized in collaboration with Smt. Swadha Rizvi, IFS, Regional Passport Officer cum Regional Director of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), featured a vibrant array of cultural performances, celebrating India’s rich heritage. Renowned artists Smt. Sudipa Ghosh and her team presented enchanting Bharatnatyam dance performances, while Md. Salim captivated the audience with a flute recital, including a duet with the tabla.

Beginning at 19:00 hours, the event included an array of dance and music performances and was attended by over 400 notable guests, including Shri Parimal Sinha, PMG (North), Muzaffarpur, Shri A.I. Haidery, GM (Finance), Patna, Shri H.R. Srinivasan, Chief Election Officer, Bihar, Smt. Swadha Rizvi, IFS, Regional Passport Officer cum Regional Director, ICCR, Col. Rahul Sharma, Director, NIFT, Patna, Shri Rajiv Kumar Mishra, CCA, BSNL, Patna and several other dignitaries were present.

The cultural program showcased Bihar’s rich heritage, providing a blend of traditional dance and contemporary music, followed by a dinner. The event was well received, bringing together the postal community and the public in a festive atmosphere.

In his closing remarks, Shri Anil Kumar expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, postal staff, and the public for their support and active participation in the World Postal Week celebrations. He said, “As we celebrate 150 years of the Universal Postal Union, we reflect on how far we have come in connecting people across the globe. Bihar Postal Circle remains committed to enhancing the customer experience and bringing the community closer together through our services.”

He added, “I wish you all the best and hope to see this relationship between Bihar Postal Circle and the public continue to grow stronger. Together, we are not just building better services, but we are also contributing to a better tomorrow.”
